Groggy, and with back aching from a night in the car, we left Kenora and continued down Trans Canada Highway 17.

Our moods brightened after we reached our first provincial border: Manitoba!

Shortly afterward, we entered Winnipeg and met up with Janelle, my good friend and fellow Dalhousie alumnus.  Janelle guided us (my car) through downtown Winnipeg, and then North to the town of Gimli, MB.

This was first time that Kate and I had seen the prairies and we were reminded of the flat, rolling hills of Essex County.  Of course, the plains in Manitoba were much more vast and dotted with sunflower fields!

Took a little dip in Lake Winnipeg at the beach in Gimli:

In the evening, we very thankful to Janelle and her dinner family for inviting us for dinner.  We were introduced to bison stew for the first time.  Needless to say, it was phenomenal.

The night was spent in Treherne, MB at Cottonwood Campground.  Treherne is a lovely little town – quiet and friendly, much like our familiar Cottam, ON.
