It was a chilly night, sleeping at the foot of the glacier. BUT it only got colder as we ventured out onto the Athabasca glacier itself.
Legend has it that drinking the glacial run-off will make you 10 years younger… it sure feels good to be 13 again!
Today, we were mesmerized by two waterfalls in Jasper:
Sunwapta Falls:
And by favourite (so far), the Athabasca Falls:
As daylight faded, we took a hike through the Valley of Five Lakes. Yes, there were five lakes, and yes, they were all clear and a beautiful blue-green.
We had our first look at big wildlife on the highway as a herd of caribou chilled out at the side of the road.
After a brief visit to the town of Jasper (mostly for buying bison steaks to cook for dinner), we set-up camp at Whistlers campground. Although there are resident black bears in the area, we felt prepared with a loaded can of bear-spray (thanks again James and Matt).

I am so envious of every day of your journey! I can’t wait to get out there some day! 🙂
