We have a new Workawayer to help us in the yard!  Julius is from Germany and is also on the Island to work and explore.

Most of the morning was spent cutting up the roof and integrating Julius into the project.

In the afternoon, I left for another adventure: to conquer the summit of Baldy Mountain!

Logically, I followed the path at this sign:

However, the path winded through the neighbourhood and ended within 1 km… no mountain to be seen.  Confused, I hacked through bush to get back to Shawnigan Lake Road.  After receiving verbal directions from friendly locals, I backtracked to McKernan Road, up another road that actually has TWO different names, over a “big red gate” and BAM, I found the trailhead!

It wasn’t confusing at all! 🙂

The hike up to the summit was a good challenge and the view was an even better reward.

One more mountain was conquered solo.

Baldy Mountain is appropriately named – the summit resembles the top of a bald man’s head:

Getting back down the mountain was just as interesting as the way up – I chose a different path down the West side, eventually reaching the railroad.  The tracks effectively led me home.

Back at the house, I picked up Julius (who does not have a car) and drove to the Kinsol Trestle.  From the bridge, one can see the Koksilah River far below.

The structure itself is quite incredible as viewed from below.

When we got back to the house, a backyard pizza party was already underway.  All of that wood-chopping sure paid off!
