The rain was coming down hard and didn’t show any signs of letting up.   Therefore, it was a perfect day to do some indoorsy things around the city… starting with the Vancouver Aquarium.

Thanks for the guest pass, Mac. 🙂

It felt good to be a kid again and roam around the aquarium, looking at interesting aquatic life forms, such as jellyfish,

strawberry anenome,

Pacific white-sided dolphins,

and beluga whales.

I learned a lot about sea otters today.  Aside from being one of the world’s cutest mammals, they have low body fat percentage and a very high metabolism – that’s how they keep warm!

After the Aquarium, I took a very wet walk through downtown.  I stopped in front of the 2010 Winter Olympic flame holder – an object that I had only ever seen on a TV screen.

At Canada Place, there are tiles with the names of towns/cities in each of the provinces/territories.  They didn’t have an Essex or a Windsor tile, but Halifax was there!

Later in the evening, Manraj and I went out for dinner at Takis’ Taverna (Greek) which served us some of the best Souvlaki I’ve ever had.  We then went to the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet to do some shopping.  I didn’t find what I was looking for, but it was still fun to walk around the outdoor mall.

I didn’t think that it would ever happen, but I made a booze run for my mother.  Legacy Liquor carries none other than the much-sought-after and highly-elusive Tatra Tea.  I bought two bottles for good measure.  You’re welcome, Mom :).IMG_0760

The liquor store is in the “old” Olympic Village (where the athletes in the 2010 Winter Olympics lived) which is now a nice neighbourhood on the shore of False Creek, right across from BC Place (where the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps play.

  1. Thanks for the Tatra Tea! I see you got some slivovic, too! I wonder if Serbian is better than Slovak? If the store is on False Creek, Dad and I were probably right there during Expo ’86!
